BURSARIES & SCHOLARSHIPS at Abbotsford Christian School come from supporting businesses and individuals who believe in the mission of ACS and who desire to support our alumni in their future endeavours. A committee of administrators, teachers, and the academic counsellor meet to review student applications for awards. We adhere to the criteria set out by the donors as faithfully as possible. These generous contributions total approximately $46,000 in donations for our graduates.
We thank our supporters who make such significant investments in our graduates over many years of giving. Your support makes a tremendous difference in the lives of our students.

The preference for this award is given to students who have embodied nurturing minds, engaging hearts, and shaping God’s world through their academics, care for others, and contributions to the community. Preference is also given to students who have expressed financial need.

Able Cresting has produced ACS and Knights clothing for years and they are happy to present an award to a student athlete. |
Believe to Achieve 2023 Bursary (The Jenner family)The Jenner family believes that with Christ as a foundation, individuals can achieve great things using the gifts and talents He has given them. Chelsea Jenner, a 2013 graduate of ACS, was actively involved in both athletics and the arts during her time at the school. She also competed in community softball at a high level, earning Division 1 scholarships. This bursary is awarded to a student-athlete enrolled in a four-year program who maintains an A average and demonstrates excellence in both academics and athletics.

BRABER EQUIPMENT LTD.Braber Equipment is a third generation family-owned business. In 1969, BE started out as a wholesaler of European whole goods to the Canadian market. With a focus on providing strong service and high quality products, BE grew from a team of four people to over 400 people and eight distribution warehouses worldwide in agriculture, industrial, and power equipment. The original goal of providing quality service and exceptional products is still with them today. The company provides a scholarship for an ACS graduate who has financial need in post-secondary education in a technical or vocational program. |

CANEX BUILDING SUPPLIES LTD.Canex opened for business in Chilliwack in the fall of 1983, servicing both the retail and the contractor markets. Canex from its inception intended to offer a local competitive alternative to the existing choice for the consumer within the Chilliwack community. The business was fostered from competitive pricing but more importantly, a penchant for customer satisfaction. Canex business clientele evolved into a mix focusing predominantly on the contractor and developer sectors and the agricultural community. Canex Building Supplies offers an award to a graduating student who displays strength of character and commitment to a post-secondary education. |

HUB MOTOR SERVICE (SIEMENS GARAGE LTD.)Hub Motor Service (Siemens Garage Ltd.) has been family owned and operated since 1954. Peter and Mary Siemens, along with their 10 children, moved from Strathmore, Alberta to Abbotsford in 1951. Peter and Mary had immigrated to Canada as teenagers from a Mennonite community in Russia. Christian education has always been an important value for the Siemens family. Several of our ACS students have worked at Hub Motors over the years, learning important skills in customer service, business, and mechanics. Hub Motors provides a scholarship each year to support a student who has need for post-secondary support and who has made a positive contribution to the ACS community. |
The International Student Overcomer AwardThe ACS international department would like to acknowledge the significant obstacles that international students need to overcome to be successful in their studies here in Canada. First, they must acquire a new language. Then, every day at school, they need to be able to study and learn in that language, while adjusting to a new culture. Beyond this, they earnestly try to make new friendships with their peers and find ways to join a new school community. We honour all of our students for their courage to come here and study in Canada. |

Jack and Alice Van DykeThroughout their years of raising children, Jack and Alice have always supported and benefited from the Christ-centered education provided by ACS, including its support for persons with disabilities. Their four children attended ACS, and after graduation have flourished and gone on to post-secondary education. Through this bursary, they hope to encourage students to continue their studies in Christian colleges and universities and return as graduates to influence Canadian society. Some may even come back to assist ACS to continue its legacy into the next generation. |

Jack Koning Memorial BursaryJack Koning was hired as the music teacher at Abbotsford Christian School in 1977. He started teaching all grades, but as the school grew, he eventually became the secondary band and choral teacher. He held that position until 2001, when his declining health forced him to take an indefinite leave. Jack was always able to draw the absolute best out of his students. He demanded excellence, which was evident at every concert or event the students played at. His bands would regularly score gold ratings at festivals, and went on many exciting band trips where they would perform at different venues around North America. Jack’s passion for music education, the advancement of art, his pursuit of excellence, and love for the Lord was evident in the way he carried himself every day. After years of deteriorating health, endless doctors appointments, and a short battle with cancer, Jack went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2022. The Jack Koning Memorial Bursary is awarded annually to graduates pursuing a post-secondary music, music education, or worship arts degree. Continuing Jack’s legacy has been made possible by his widow, Sieglinde Koning. |
JOHN KAMPMAN MEMORIALJohn Kampman was one of ACS’ first staff members and served as an administrator at the school from 1955 to 1993. John was very well respected by the ACS community and was seen as a calm, thoughtful, articulate, and intelligent man who exuded a quiet strength. One of his former staff members described him as, “Having the right mixture of striving for the ideal and common sense.” John Kampman’s vision was that Christian education belonged to all believers. Many of Mr. Kampman’s children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and now great grandchildren, have walked the halls of ACS as students and staff. He passed away March 3, 2011, but his legacy lives on. Each year the John Kampman Memorial Award is granted to a student who exemplifies the mission of ACS. |

LLT LLP Chartered Professional AccountantsLLT LLP Chartered Professional Accountants is a well-established accounting firm based in Chilliwack. Founded by Casey Langbroek in the late 1970s, LLT LLP has grown significantly over the years, evolving from a small practice into a partnership with multiple partners and a substantial staff. One of the partners, David Langbroek CPA CGA, is an ACS alumni. Their approach is client-focused, aiming to relieve the stress associated with financial management and help businesses make informed decisions to achieve their goals. LLT LLP is deeply involved in the community, supporting various local initiatives and encouraging their staff to participate in community activities. The LLT bursary is awarded to a student who shows academic aptitude particularly towards math, accounting, or business studies. |

The Louise Riezebos Memorial BursaryLouise Riezebos was an educational assistant at ACS middle school from 2015 to 2022. She very much had a heart for LSS students and ACS’ learning support services program. Her family has decided to continue a legacy in her name for those students who share her heart for diverse students. This bursary is given to students who have engaged in our learning support services program or are interested in entering a post-secondary program related to inclusive education or counselling. |

PAULINE VAN BIERT MEMORIALPauline Van Biert was a teacher at ACS Elementary for many years. She was a “lifelong learner” who mastered French and Spanish in addition to some Latin. She enjoyed learning about the cultures of the places she visited and worked in, learned the botanical names for flora and fauna of various regions, and loved knowing how things worked. After her retirement in 1988, she combined her passions by teaching the children of missionary families in Nigeria, Liberia, and Chuuk (part of Micronesia). Pauline passed away in 2006 and left a legacy of commitment to teaching through this award for a deserving graduate. |

Peter Kingma Family FoundationAll five of Peter and Sherry Kingma’s children were educated at ACS and the family continues to highly value Christian education. Peter began his career as a drywaller and from there got into home building and land development with his brother. Many of Peter’s children have also entered the construction industry. The P. Kingma Family Foundation is pleased to present two bursaries to deserving graduates pursuing education and training in the field of construction, as well as two bursaries to students who lead on the worship team and are continuing their education in music. |

Polar Electric BursarySince 1990, Polar Electric Inc. has proudly served the Lower Mainland, from Vancouver to Hope. They specialize in large scale multi-family wood frame construction, commercial projects, and tenant improvements. They happily employ apprentices of all levels, encouraging them to continue their education with Skilled Trades BC to become Red Seal electricians. Polar Electric is a firm believer that skilled trade workers are imperative to the community and workforce. This bursary is for an ACS graduate who is looking to join one of the 90 Skilled Trades, recognized by Skilled Trades BC. |
Ralph & Grace Terpstra Scholarship FundRalph and Grace Terpstra and family are long time committed supporters of Christian education – from being founding members of Delta Christian School in 1953 to serving as a student, teacher, board member, and committee member in various Christian schools across BC. They have especially appreciated ACS for the love and support shown to a member of their family—a young mom of four ACS students—who went through a battle with cancer. They are thankful for the opportunity to support a student who has shown determination, a strong work ethic, and who is pursuing a future in the trades. |

SANDRA ELGERSMA MEMORIALSandra Elgersma was the elementary music teacher at ACS from 1988–2013. Sandra’s love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life every day. For 25 years, Sandra shared her love of music with the children of ACS and taught them to develop the gifts God gave them. Even though Sandra faced significant health challenges in her life, her faith kept her strong. Sandra devoted her life to her passion for music and to her calling to teach. Sandra was called home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2013. Our school and our students will continue to benefit from Sandra’s love and commitment for many years. Through Christian Stewardship Services, Sandra ensured that the things that were important to her during her life were also recognized in her estate plans. Part of her estate gift has been set aside as an endowment that will provide for an ongoing bursary. The bursary is awarded to graduates pursuing post-secondary music education. |
STEVEN SHEAD MEMORIAL AWARDSteven Shead was a student at ACS and passed away November 11, 2003 as a result of a traffic accident. He was remembered for his love of music, hockey, work, and friends. Steven “bloomed where he was planted.” He had a wonderful sense of humour and is remembered fondly by the ACS staff and teachers. Each year, the Steven Shead Memorial Award is granted to an ACS graduate who plans to enter the medical field. |

TIMMERMANS LANDSCAPING LTD.Timmermans Landscaping is a family-based company, established in 1977. We provide commercial/residential landscape construction, primarily in BC. We enjoy the joys and challenges of everything from crane jobs on 40 storey high-rises in downtown Vancouver, to basics of pulling weeds for our neighbours. Our hope is to bless a student so they may continue the good works of our heavenly Father in their walk with Christ moving forward. |
