We are excited to announce that Teresa Spyksma has accepted our offer to serve as ACS’ new middle school principal, beginning August 2026.

Teresa has been part of the ACS community for more than 12 years as both a parent and staff member. Working at our secondary campus first as a learning support services coordinator, she stepped into the vice principal role six years ago and served as the interim principal last year. Teresa, who has a Master of Education from Dordt University, brings a wealth of knowledge about ACS’ culture and extensive experience in leadership development and systems-level thinking.

While leadership at the middle school will be a new opportunity for Teresa, she is thrilled to continue the good work happening there. “I believe in the transformative potential of middle school education,” she shared. “Middle school students are navigating a critical stage of development, and I am passionate about supporting teachers with the resources, professional learning, and encouragement they need to build strong relationships and foster student growth.”

Further, Teresa shared that she desires to be a leader who “models grace and humility, encourages others, and walks faithfully with Jesus so that every decision and action reflects His character.”

This combination of passion for our middle school students, staff, and program, along with a clear, Christ-centred view of leadership, will set up our middle school for ongoing success.

With Mike Cumiskey taking a position at TWU in January, we are pleased that John van der leek, current middle school vice principal, will serve as interim principal for the remainder of this school year.

Please join me in congratulating Teresa on her new role and praying for her as she anticipates this transition.

On behalf of the Middle School Principal Hiring Team,
