Shorts, tank tops, skirts, ripped jeans, and low-cut shirts: one of the biggest battles between my generation and the one before it. The Dress Code isn’t a light subject.
The fight
Teachers, or more accurately schools, most likely enforce dress code rules for all of us students. Some schools might be stricter than others and other schools might require a mandatory uniform. Whatever the case may be, every school has rules and such rules might include wearing a shirt with sleeves, shorts that go past your finger tips or wearing closed toed shoes. However, do we know the reasons being? I’ve heard many students chat away about this:
“You are telling her that making sure boys have a ‘distraction free’ learning environment is more important than her education.”
Speculations include that our authority doesn’t want the male portion of our generation to get distracted by seeing skin. Now, I hear your uproars, but are they really so wrong in doing this?
Why argue?
These arguments are some of the many I have heard made about the student dress code; however, not all of us hate the dress code. I believe the dress code is important; but even more than that, I believe in modesty.
Modest is hottest
Modesty is an important virtue to possess as a Christian; we see in 1 Timothy 2: 9-10 where Paul states:
“the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, 10 but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God.”
In this verse we see Paul telling us that we should dress modestly if we have respect towards the Lord. This is how God calls us to live and when we disrespect this, we disrespect him.
That being said, I believe with the gift of free will and the privilege of being able to choose our outfits everyday, we should make responsible choices. In this way we not only are loving God and His word, but ourselves as well.
Live it out girl!
By listening to the dress code not only in our schools but the Bible as well, we are obeying God and the authority over us, which is also called upon us to do. So, let’s wear clothes with higher neck lines, skirts that are a little longer, and jeans with smaller rips and respect the dress code given to us.
Let’s be modest in all that we do.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
