There are few joys greater than being a grandparent, and the annual Grandfriends Day celebration at the elementary campus was a reminder of just how special that role can be.<\/p>\n
From the moment I stepped into the school lobby, there was a buzz of excitement in the air and the energy could be felt in every hallway.<\/p>\n
My visit began with a warm welcome from the smiling staff and students who were very eager to help grandfriends find their child\u2019s classroom. I was led to my grandson\u2019s classroom where I was greeted with a \u201cGrandma!\u201d<\/em> and a lovely handmade button. Mine featured a cheerful \u201cThumb-body loves you!\u201d<\/em> message with my grandson\u2019s two thumbprints made into a stick person. It wasn\u2019t just a button for me. It was a keepsake; a little piece of him pinned proudly to my shirt.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The highlight of the morning was seeing my grandson present his learning. With a big smile and pride in his voice, he showed me the projects that he prepared and read me a story. We looked at the art projects and displays in the classroom as well as completed worksheets together. I forgot what it\u2019s like to sit in a child\u2019s chair and see the classroom through his eyes.<\/span><\/strong> It was amazing to see how much he had grown in his learning and his confidence in reading.<\/p>\n Grandfriends day was also an opportunity to connect with other grandparents. Whether new to ACS or alumni, there was a wonderful sense of community as we swapped stories and commented on how quickly our grandkids are growing up.<\/p>\n It was clear that every child in the classroom was surrounded by a lot of love.<\/p>\n Throughout the morning, it was so evident how Abbotsford Christian School is living out its mission of engaging minds, nurturing hearts, and shaping God\u2019s world. The thoughtful projects, the classroom displays, and the way faith was woven naturally into every part of my grandson\u2019s learning journey\u2014all of it reflected a commitment to more than just academics.<\/strong> <\/span>It showed a dedication to holistic education in helping each child grow.<\/p>\n The ACS refrain, \u201cwe teach through relationship\u201d was also very apparent in his classroom, as I saw firsthand the care his teacher showed to each of her students.<\/p>\n As I left, after lots of hugs and kisses, I was overwhelmed with my deep gratitude for the role ACS has played in shaping the lives of my children and now my grandchildren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" There are few joys greater than being a grandparent, and the annual Grandfriends Day celebration at the elementary campus was a reminder of just how special that role can be.
