{"id":6497,"date":"2022-10-03T12:06:38","date_gmt":"2022-10-03T19:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abbotsfordchristian.com\/insideout\/?p=6497"},"modified":"2022-10-06T20:30:39","modified_gmt":"2022-10-07T03:30:39","slug":"advice-for-a-new-principal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abbotsfordchristian.com\/insideout\/2022\/10\/03\/advice-for-a-new-principal\/","title":{"rendered":"ADVICE FOR A NEW PRINCIPAL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In August, as I was cleaning up my office in anticipation of a new year, I came across a book called \u201c<em>Advice for a New Principal\u201d<\/em>\u00a0that was given to me by my last class as a teacher at ACS. It was written by the students from 2A in 2020.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #266093;\"><strong>Although it\u2019s my third year as principal, in many ways, this feels like a new job.<\/strong><\/span> For the first time, communicable disease policies and practices haven\u2019t stood in the way of our hopes and dreams for learning in community. It\u2019s been wonderful to welcome parents back to campus, return to campus wide chapels, see teachers enjoying lunch together in the staff room, and so much more.<\/p>\n<p>Here is some of the excellent advice they gave me in this book:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Greet kids in the morning.<\/li>\n<li>Keep kids safe.<\/li>\n<li>Wear funny accessories.<\/li>\n<li>Pray to Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Be kind to your students and the teachers.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #266093;\"><strong>NO wild animals allowed.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Go outside and play with kids at recess.<\/li>\n<li>Read a book to a class every day.<\/li>\n<li>Give candy away.<\/li>\n<li>Play with LEGO.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #266093;\"><strong>Tell \u201cFriday Funnies\u201d jokes<\/strong><\/span> over the P.A.<\/li>\n<li>Pajama day every Tuesday.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t yell when kids are in trouble.<\/li>\n<li>(Put)gumball machines in the hallway.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #474747;\">Make every class learn about animals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Every day = nap time. \ud83d\ude34<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #266093;\"><strong>Do a funny dance at the fire drill.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Say \u201c<em>you can do whatever you want.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Say \u201c<em>hi<\/em>\u201d to a class and stay a while.<\/li>\n<li>Wear <span style=\"color: #c72263;\"><strong>pink<\/strong><\/span> on Mondays.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In June, I wished that group of students farewell as they ended their time at the elementary campus and headed off to grade 5 at our middle school campus. While those grade 2 students didn\u2019t get much of a \u201cnormal\u201d elementary school experience for a few years, I think they\u2019d love to know that I have taken their suggestions to heart and look forward to trying more of their ideas and hearing about other ways to serve the students at ACS well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In August, as I was cleaning up my office in anticipation of a new year, I came across a book called \u201cAdvice for a New Principal\u201d\u00a0that was given to me by my last class as a teacher at ACS.
