{"id":3777,"date":"2018-07-10T08:31:57","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T15:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insideout.insidewp.test\/?p=3777"},"modified":"2018-07-10T08:31:57","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T15:31:57","slug":"a-problems-solution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abbotsfordchristian.com\/insideout\/2018\/07\/10\/a-problems-solution\/","title":{"rendered":"A PROBLEMS SOLUTION: THIS I BELIEVE SUMMER SERIES #3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #00bcd3\">BY DAVID WILLIAMSON<\/span><\/h3>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00bcd3\"><strong>The struggles of math<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As a child, up\u00a0until\u00a0grade 6, I was home schooled.\u00a0I dreaded getting up and starting the rigorous day filled with grammar, book reviews,\u00a0social studies\u00a0and new mathematical concepts.<\/p>\n<p>My\u00a0days\u00a0started off with my parents awakening me\u00a0from my\u00a0deep\u00a0slumber to go on an early seven o&#8217;clock\u00a0run.\u00a0Following this,\u00a0I\u00a0began\u00a0my studies.\u00a0While\u00a0I\u00a0may not have been always focused,\u00a0I usually\u00a0finished English,\u00a0French, history, science and two types of math around three in the afternoon, depending on how much\u00a0I\u00a0really wanted to work.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0remember complaining\u00a0to my parents\u00a0about the intense day riddled with extra homework\u00a0(especially math),\u00a0and being forced to go above and beyond the curriculum standards of British Columbia.\u00a0I\u00a0thought that doing all this extra math would never benefit me,\u00a0since, calculators can do so much of\u00a0it\u00a0for you with such ease.\u00a0But even with calculators being such an\u00a0easy\u00a0tool to use,\u00a0my\u00a0parents thought\u00a0it\u00a0was necessary\u00a0to learn the multiplication table and to recall\u00a0it\u00a0off the top of\u00a0my\u00a0head.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00bcd3\"><strong>The turn around<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As time went on, I\u00a0began to succeed in math. I began to understand\u00a0basic\u00a0concepts from geometry to simple algebra.\u00a0Before\u00a0I\u00a0knew\u00a0it\u00a0I\u00a0was\u00a0already two years ahead in math by grade 5.\u00a0At that point\u00a0I\u00a0started my transition into school.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #266092\"><strong>I\u00a0was nervous;\u00a0would\u00a0I\u00a0know enough?<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Would\u00a0classes be harder than\u00a0I\u00a0thought?\u00a0To my\u00a0relief, school was not as difficult as\u00a0I\u00a0thought it would be.\u00a0Grade\u00a06,\u00a07, and 8 all went by without a sweat.<\/p>\n<p>Putting in\u00a0the effort of learning the basics concepts ensured\u00a0I\u00a0was well-prepared\u00a0to enjoy the next couple of years of\u00a0math, with the comfort knowing that <span style=\"color: #266092\"><strong>the work that\u00a0I\u00a0put in\u00a0when\u00a0I\u00a0was younger was paying off.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0In just a span of a couple of years,\u00a0I\u00a0went from having to try hard in\u00a0math\u00a0to being able to\u00a0understand\u00a0new\u00a0and\u00a0old\u00a0concepts very easily.\u00a0With this newfound talent, I\u00a0went from disliking\u00a0math\u00a0to being excited to\u00a0learn\u00a0the following lesson.\u00a0As\u00a0I\u00a0started\u00a0high school,\u00a0I\u00a0began\u00a0appreciating the work that\u00a0I put into learning the fundamental concepts of\u00a0math;\u00a0I\u00a0began\u00a0to see the fruit of\u00a0my\u00a0labour\u00a0by understanding new ideas easily.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0now\u00a0have\u00a0come to\u00a0the realization that maybe the push\u00a0I\u00a0got from\u00a0my parents to\u00a0put\u00a0an effort in this subject was worth it.\u00a0From complaining about having to do math, to anticipating the\u00a0next\u00a0lesson, this has come\u00a0to be\u00a0because of the work\u00a0I\u00a0have put in the past to\u00a0help\u00a0me with\u00a0future\u00a0problems.
