{"id":1322,"date":"2015-02-13T07:01:54","date_gmt":"2015-02-13T15:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/insideout.insidewp.test\/?p=1322"},"modified":"2015-02-13T07:01:54","modified_gmt":"2015-02-13T15:01:54","slug":"middle-school-teacher-minute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abbotsfordchristian.com\/insideout\/2015\/02\/13\/middle-school-teacher-minute\/","title":{"rendered":"If You Give a Middle School Teacher a Minute&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you give a middle school teacher a minute,<\/p>\n<p>She might want to grab a fresh cup of coffee.<\/p>\n<p>As she\u2019s heading out to the staff room,<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #005693\">A student might beg her to stay<\/span><\/strong> and supervise while he microwaves his popcorn.<\/p>\n<p>While they are waiting, they\u2019ll get into a conversation about his castle design and the materials he\u2019ll need for building his castle model.<\/p>\n<p>Once the popcorn is finally done and she\u2019s about to lock the door behind her,<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll realize that she has lost her keys.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll frantically search her classroom and try to mentally re-trace her steps,<\/p>\n<p>Finally recalling that she had stopped by the gym earlier and probably left them there.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking of the gym will make her remember that she needs to send out an email about a location change for basketball practice tomorrow afternoon,<\/p>\n<p>So she\u2019ll quickly sit down at her computer to send the message before she forgets again.<\/p>\n<p>While digging her keyboard out from under the pile of papers that have just been turned in,<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll find the rubric that she needs to print and copy for an assignment that she\u2019ll be giving next block.<\/p>\n<p>As she heads out of her classroom and down the hallway toward the gym to look for her keys,<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll stop to help some students who are cleaning up <strong><span style=\"color: #005693\">the bag of popcorn that has spilled everywhere<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll leave them to finish the clean-up and hurry to the gym to look for her keys, but as soon as she gets through the gym door, she\u2019ll get hit on the head by an errant volleyball.<\/p>\n<p>The student responsible will rush up to ask if she\u2019s OK, reminding her of the student with the upset stomach that left her class earlier to wait to be picked up by the office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #005693\"><strong>She\u2019ll weave her way through the crowded hallway<\/strong><\/span> to check, and will meet the student and his mom on their way out the door.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After a quick conversation about what he will be missing later during Science class, she\u2019ll remember the rubric in her hand and excuse herself to go and make her copies before class starts again.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll finally make it to the teacher work room only to realize that the staples need to be replaced and the double sided copying option isn\u2019t working.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, Mrs. Howard will offer to take care of her rubric and send it up when it\u2019s ready,<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #005693\">So she\u2019ll check the time<\/span><\/strong> and notice that the bell is about to ring.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll figure she still has enough time to quickly get that cup of coffee before she goes upstairs,<\/p>\n<p>So she\u2019ll rush into the staff room.<\/p>\n<p>And chances are,<\/p>\n<p>The coffee pot will be empty.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>(credit to Laura Numeroff, whose book \u201cIf You give a Moose a Muffin\u201d inspired this post, and to my colleagues who offered many excellent suggestions!)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you give a middle school teacher a minute, She might want to grab a fresh cup of coffee.
