We are all looking forward to an exciting start to a new school year. The first draft of class lists should have been emailed home in July and the finalized lists will be emailed out again the Friday before school starts. The lists will also be posted outside classroom doors so students and parents can find their classrooms on the first day. When students arrive on Tuesday, staff members will be outside the buildings and in the hallways, ready to assist anyone in finding their way. Parents are welcome to accompany their children to their classrooms and parents are also welcome to join us for our Chapel at 10:50 am. The middle school doors will open at 8:00 am and classes begin at 8:20 am. The first day is a full day.

At the end of the year, teachers of each grade level meet to make a careful, initial division of classes. The teachers look for combinations of students who work well together, considering the best academic, social, and emotional needs of each child. The first drafts of the class lists are then shared with teachers who have taught the students over the last number of years and the principal. This second level of discussion often produces some changes. The lists were then emailed home in early July. When the teachers return in late August, the lists are carefully reviewed once again. When everyone is satisfied that the wisest possible decisions have been made, the lists are finalized, emailed out to homes a second time, and posted. In cases when parents or students are disappointed, it will help to know how carefully these decisions have been made. The teachers and principals appreciate the support that parents show us in this area.

The Meet the Teacher Event for the middle and secondary is set for Thursday, September 5. There will NOT be a BBQ this year. We will begin in the middle school gym with a plenary address and introductions at 7:00 pm. Middle school staff will be available to meet parents in their respective classrooms starting at 7:15 pm.

Middle school students will have their school pictures taken on Friday, September 20.

The grade 7 students will be heading off to Newcastle Island for September 11-13. If parents of the grade 7 students would like to come along for three amazing days of learning, they need to connect with one of the grade 7 homeroom teachers.
