SOGI Presentations

Please note: All sessions are now FULL. Thank you for your support for this event.

The ACS board has been busy clarifying the school’s positions and postures specific to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) as we seek to care for all students at the school in the context of their learning.  This work started well before the pandemic and although the pandemic slowed down the hard work of having community conversations, we are now poised and ready to do this with our school community. Our school community is comprised of multiple churches and denominations, and we recognize that the topic lends itself to polarizing views, opinions, and interpretations.  These conversations promise to be complex and challenging, and it is our hope that we can present a clear way forward that honours both who we are and what we believe in the context of caring for all students we have the privilege to educate. To “whet your appetite” we thought it would be good to share with you the three pillars that the board is using to guide their work:

  1. ACS’ SOGI Position Statement:  Marriage is between one man and one woman.  Gender Identity is determined at conception.*complete policy found in Educational Policies Manual
  2. We as Christians, have both a moral obligation and a legal requirement to create a sense of safety and belonging for all students.
  3. We strive to use the Biblical narrative of Jesus as our ultimate source for wisdom as we navigate truth and grace with our students.  Jesus is truth and grace embodied.

Our intent is to provide a high-level overview of the work that the board has been engaged in, as well as providing an understanding of how staff are caring for the sexual minority youth currently in our school.

If these conversations are of interest to you, we would love you to RSVP for one of the events. We will be capping each of the evenings at 80 people with an interest of keeping these evenings smaller and more intimate. There will be coffee and refreshments available for purchase in the Common Culture Café.
